Skyhawks Softball Ends Season in RMAC Tournament

Denver, CO. May 1st, 2009 - The Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (#7 seed) season came to an end Friday in the 2nd round of The RMAC Softball Championships losing to Colorado School of Mines (#3 seed) in the first game and falling to the Regis University Rangers (#5 seed) in the second game of the double-elimination tournament.

In the first game the Skyhawks were held scoreless until the top of the 6th inning and held to four hits in the game. The Orediggers were able to touch home seven times and put up 10 hits and no errors in the game. The Skyhawks had four players with one hit each, Chelena Coulston, Jordan Willis, Ashley Hibbs and Desirea Gil. Stephanie Janes pitched all six innings and racked up six strikeouts. With the loss the Skyhawks moved down in the bracket where they faced off against a tough Regis Rangers team.

The Skyhawks kept pace early matching the Rangers in scoring through the first inning of play with the score tied 1-1. Regis started out the second inning adding two more runs extending the advantage to 3-1. The next three innings both teams would be held scoreless. Regis would add one more run in the 6th to take a 4-1 lead.   Leading the way for the Skyhawks was Chelena Coulston and Amber Massey. Both Skyahwaks went 2-4 with Chelena scoring in the bottom of the 1st by an RBI from Amber Massey. Alyssa Rahm pitched all seven innings tallying two strikeouts.

The Skyhawks end their season with a 19-24 record and placed two players on the All-RMAC Third Team. Junior Amber Massey and Freshman Chelena Coulston.
